Sergio
Leone
Leone was Italy's response to America with his slow, pitiless and darkly
humorous 'spaghetti' westerns. Notable for their disconcerting juxtaposition
of long shots with abrupt, angular close-ups and the atmospheric soundtracks
of Ennio Morricone, the films of Leone inspired imitations worldwide in
a period where western was an almost extinguished genre.
