Woody Allen

Although Allen is more talked about now for his dubious lifestyle choices than for his films, he has been an incredibly prolific filmmaker. Despite the fact that there are no masterpieces in the film-a-year and he has been churning out since the nineties, Allen reached his greatest cinematic heights in the mid-eighties.

Love, death and the complexities of human relationships are the reccuring themes of Woody Allen's intensely personal films. Cinematic hommages abound in his work (Fellini, Bergman, the Marx Brothers, german expressionist cineasts) but what permeates it all is Allen's absurd sense of humour.
